Meet Alexandria Butt

Hi all! I am so excited to be on this journey with you.

I believe everyone can benefit from therapy however, the key to success is dependent on the therapeutic relationship. Here is a bit about me to see if I may be a good fit for you. I am a woman, wife, and mother. I am a family oriented individual and passionate about helping others in my professional life. I am continuously learning and growing as an individual and have found many ways to cope with my life transitions and challenges. It has been important for me to adapt my coping strategies and to use self reflection to ensure I am taking care of my holistic health and wellbeing. I have worked in Mental Health and Community Health for over 10 years.

I love working with people from various cultural, ethnical, and diverse backgrounds. I have worked with individuals who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Bi-Polar Disorder, as well as, assisting their caregivers. You do not need a diagnosis to work with me and sometimes the disorder is not as relevant to what is happening now in your life. I do not believe you are defined by your disorder - you are YOU!

 I am an eclectic therapist which means I use an array of interventions to meet your goals. Interventions and modalities I use are: ACT, CBT, CPT, DBT, Mindfulness, MI, Trauma-Focused, and Client Centered. I am a lifelong learner therefore, these approaches may change over time with the research that is available.

Neurodiverse  Individuals

 We recognize and celebrate every humans experience including those who identify as neurodiverse. We believe neurodiversity is a different way of experiencing, processing, and/or interacting with the world. At Be You Counselling we do not believe neurodiversity is something that needs to be changed.

Depression

Depression is a serious health concern which causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It impacts your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. 

We understand that it can feel overwhelming and isolating and you do not have to be alone. Help is available and recovery is possible!

Anxiety

Everyone feels anxiety throughout their life. Anxiety can be a normal reaction to situations however, anxiety can become a problem if it is interfering with your behaviors, daily living, and school/work.

We believe that anxiety can be managed and you can take back control of your life.

Communication

Communication is the key to building and maintaining relationships. Communication encompasses more than speaking. It involves listening, non-verbal cues, empathy, and assertiveness. 

We believe communication is a skill that can be learned. Improving your communication can enhance your overall quality of health.

Trauma is not what happens to us but how our mind-body has reacted and processes the event(s). Our mind-body holds the memories to these events and it can affect our thoughts and behaviors. Using an approach that works for you, we can help you get back to who you are.
